Earnie Dee Shaver, better known as Earnie Shavers, was a former American professional boxer who competed from 1969 to 1983, with two more comebacks in 1987 and 1995. He has been twice. Challenging the World Heavyweight Championship, Shavers is known to be one of the toughest punchers in boxing history. He scored 68 knockout wins including 46 in the first 3 rounds and 23 first knockout wins. He has a 91.8% knockout win rate and 76.4% overall elimination rate. Shavers played two world championship games, against Muhammad Ali in 1977 and Larry Holmes in 1978. He scored against Holmes in the seventh round and seriously injured Ali in the second round. Shavers never won a world title, but beat former world champions Vicente Rondón, Jimmy Ellis and Ken Norton, as well as their rivals Jimmy Young and Joe Bugner. In 2001, Shavers published an autobiography titled Welcome to the Big Time.
