Elaine Thompson-Herah is a Jamaican sprinter who is widely acknowledged as one of the finest female sprinters of all time and she has achieved medals in several sprinting categories including 60m, 100m, 200m, 4 × 100m relay, and 4 × 200m relay. Although Elaine had taken to sprinting at a very young age, her performances in her school days were not considered ‘outstanding’ by the local coaches. She was also dropped from her high school’s track team, in the senior year, for disciplinary reasons.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she had set a new Olympic record of 10.61 seconds in the 100m event which had made her the fastest woman alive and the 2nd-fastest woman in history. This was the 2nd-equal fastest time in the history of the 100m event. Elaine had broken Florence Griffith-Joyner’s record of 10.62 seconds that was set in 1988.

In the 200m event there, she had equaled her personal best time of 21.66 seconds in the semi-final. In the final, she had won the ‘Gold’ medal with a personal best time of 21.53 seconds which was also the 2nd-fastest time ever in the 200 m event.

Her major ‘Silver’ medals include the 4 × 100m relay event at the 2016 Rio Olympics; the 200m event at the 2015 Beijing World Athletics Championships; and the 4 × 100m relay event at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

She had also clinched the ‘Bronze’ medal in the 60m event at the 2016 Portland IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics and the 4 × 200m relay event at the 2019 Yokohama World Athletics Relays.
